Roselands is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It lies in the City of Canterbury. The district of Roselands was named after Roselands Shopping Centre, and officially became a suburb in its own right on 9 February 1987, after some years of agitation by local residents and members of parliament. It was previously part of Punchbowl and retains the same postcode as Punchbowl, 2196. Roselands lies in the Cooks River watershed. This river is tidal up to the neighbouring suburb of Belmore. A bike and walking trail takes walkers and cyclists all the way along the Cooks River to where it flows into Botany Bay. The area is the State seat occupied by current Premier of New South Wales, Morris Iemma. It is considered to be a safe Labor (Australian Labor Party) seat. King Georges Road is the main road through Roselands and is a ring road which connects the northern suburbs of Sydney, and the motorways of the North Coast of New South Wales with the Southern Beaches of Sydney and the motorways to New South Wales South Coast. This main road also connects near Roselands to the Freeway to Sydney's International Airport just 15 minutes drive to the East, and also West directly to the highway to Canberra and Melbourne.
